My name is Rachel Green and I am the owner of Rustic Proverb. I am 30 years old and born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I have been with my husband, Donavon, for 12 years, married for 4 and we have two beautiful little girls, Nala (4) and Grayson (2).
Okay, now that we have all of the basics out of the way. Here is what you really want to know. Why did I start this business? I feel like every modest boutique order always has the same answer when asked why she started a modest boutique. We all want to offer trendy clothing that is both cute AND modest. Traditional modest clothing has always looked like an old grandma to me. We always had to finesse cute items we find to make them more modest and covering.
But what makes Rustic Proverb unique and sets us apart from other modest boutiques? I have always believed that modesty is such a personal journey. Through our walk with God, He will reveal Himself to each and every one of us in a unique way that He sees best. Your journey is not my journey, and your walk is not my walk. I want Rustic Proverb to be a one-stop-shop for modest ladies to find pieces that fit their lifestyle, body type, and personal relationship with God.
Modesty has always been a part of my life. I am a PK (Pastor's kid for the people in the back.) My dad has been a pastor for my entire life. Growing up Apostolic Pentecostal, there was always conversation and teachings in my church and in my household surrounding keeping certain things covered. I always thought of this as a set of "rules" I needed to follow. I never realized that this was less about restrictions and more about relationship. Whew child! That'll preach! But I'll save that for another day.
Long story short, focusing more on following rules instead of understanding the purpose behind this journey led me to break these rules and get further away from where God wanted me to be. Hopefully one day I will have the courage to tell my testimony. But for now, I'll just share that it has take me a LONG time to get to where I am today and see myself the way that Jesus sees me.
I don't know your individual story. I have no idea how or why you have stumbled upon my brand. But I do know that Jesus loves you. He led you here for a reason and I believe that it is my obligation to let you know that He sees and loves the real you. The world may tell you that the raw, unfiltered you isn't good enough. You have to show more, do more, and reveal more to get a certain attention that really gets us nowhere in the first place. Fortunately, Jesus doesn't need any of that extra stuff to love you. He wants you to feel beautiful and confident in your true self.
Every week, I hope to share more of my story with you. I want to share my inspiration behind this brand and each piece we add to the collection. Here, you will find styling tips, personal stories, and just love. I am not, by any means, a professional writer. I may not spell things right or get my word correct all the time. I just want to share my heart and hopefully build a community of ladies that can strut our stuff and show the world who Jesus is and what he can do for your life. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk and I look forward to getting to know you!
